Lots of things are happening in the garden this time of year. It is a very exciting time with changes every day. The squash are starting to put on tiny babies that will be ready to eat in a matter of a couple of weeks or less. The first round of radishes has been harvested with more planted in their place. The sweet peas are filling up their space on the trellis with another section planted to be ready by the time these are done. I have planted nasturiums as an addition to try to deter pests, as an added bonus they are also edible (both leaves and blossoms).
I also added another raised bed (seems there is always room for more) and planted cucamelons (sour gherkins) and some zinnias. First year for the cucamelons, stay tuned to see how they turn out.
We are starting to get some ripe strawberries and it is a daily battle to beat the pests and birds to them. The tomatoes and peppers all have blossoms and look to be promising a good harvest later this season if all goes well. We have also added a worm composter into the herb bed to see if that actually works, I will let you know.
We have reworked the drip irrigation to try to be in the best shape possible for what is shaping up to be a dry summer. Turns out all of our rain ended up in the Midwest, I am sure they would be happy to send it back!
Check back in another week to see what is growing on!
