My Vertical Garden Victory: Tomatoes and Strawberries in a GreenStalk Planter

Tomato season is in full swing, and this year’s harvest is looking fantastic! My secret to success? The 5-Tier GreenStalk Original Vertical Planter. It’s an amazing solution that lets me grow both my tomatoes and strawberries in the same container, saving space and making watering a breeze. The photos below show just how well everything is doing. I’ve been growing tomatoes on the upper tiers, including some beautiful purple cherry tomatoes and some larger green […]

How to Make Fermented Salsa (A Probiotic-Rich Recipe)

If you’ve ever had a mountain of ripe tomatoes from the garden, you know that fresh salsa is a must. But have you ever tried fermenting it? Fermented salsa is a game-changer in our house. It develops a complex, tangy flavor that’s incredibly delicious, and the fermentation process makes it a naturally probiotic-rich food. Best of all, you can completely customize it based on what’s abundant in your garden and how much heat you like. […]

Plant Starts Are Growing

It was time to give the plant starts more growing room so everyone got a new home yesterday to allow them to keep thriving until it is time to move outside in a few more weeks. Average last frost date in my area is not until April 16th so they have another month to wait.

Busy Summer Continues

The busy summer continues here in the Pacific Northwest.  As other parts of the US are winding down in the garden department we are just now going strong with harvesting. Things have been crazy here this summer with more varieties of plants to try but more pest pressure than we have had in years past. The leaf miner battle with the spinach, chard and beets has been a battle of wills for sure.  Next year […]

Garden Tour – June 23, 2019

It is the time of year that I see changes daily in the garden.  The newest development is the Cucamelons, the tiny baby ones are on there although you almost need a magnifying glass to see them.  I think they are going to be about the size of a grape when fully mature.  It should be interesting to see how they turn out.  I harvested 2.5 pounds of Sugar Snap Peas this morning and processed […]

Garden Highlights 06/14/2019

The garden changes everyday and I really start to notice the subtle changes that will lead to amazing things in the coming weeks. The baby tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, peppers, etc will very soon be items for devouring and preserving for winter. I am excited every morning to see what has happened overnight and then to check again at the end of the day to see how much everything has grown in a few short […]

5 Reasons Tomatoes Are the Perfect Plant for Beginners

If you ask me what single plant every new gardener should try to grow, my answer is always the same: tomatoes. There is simply nothing that compares to the flavor of a truly fresh, sun-warmed tomato picked right off the vine. It’s a transformative taste that will ruin you for bland, grocery store tomatoes forever. Growing them yourself is an incredibly rewarding experience, and it’s much easier than you might think. If you’re on the […]
