So far the artichoke seems to be thriving, we think we are just going to let it bloom this year and see what happens since there are only 2 fruit/blooms on it. We will post pictures as soon as it blooms as it is rumored to be a very beautiful bloom much like an overgrown thistle. Stay Tuned!
I have recently been turned onto variegated plants by videos from Roots and Refuge Farm. The first one that I have found available locally was a Pineapple Mint. It is gorgeous, I hope to find more varieties to add to the collection now that I know it is a thing. #RootsandRefuge #Variegatedplants
Lots of things happening in the garden. We have added another set of raised beds with trellising for additional tomatoes, cucumbers and another crop of peas. Also added more varieties of peppers and some marigolds to help attract some good bugs to the garden in hopes they will EAT the bad ones. Holding onto our commitment of no chemical gardening in the struggle for a balanced natural garden. #Tomatoes #Peppers #Heirloomtomatoes #gardening #containergardening
What a beautiful surprise to wake up to on Mother’s Day. I didn’t even plant these irises they were my gift from the last homeowner and return every year to grace us with their beauty! Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
If you ask me what single plant every new gardener should try to grow, my answer is always the same: tomatoes. There is simply nothing that compares to the flavor of a truly fresh, sun-warmed tomato picked right off the vine. It’s a transformative taste that will ruin you for bland, grocery store tomatoes forever. Growing them yourself is an incredibly rewarding experience, and it’s much easier than you might think. If you’re on the […]
Things in the Pacific Northwest continue to amaze. The strawberries, comfrey, and lavender are perennials here and come back every year without any effort at all. That never would have happened in the Texas heat for sure! Everything is just so green this time of year and I love it! I think it makes all of the months of dreary winter worth the wait!
Things are starting to happen in the garden. First planting are getting bigger and new seeds are sprouting. Very exciting time in the garden! Check it out! https://youtu.be/xADEXhPGv9M
For anyone who grew up canning and preserving, the classic metal-lidded Mason jar is an iconic sight. For years, it was the only system I knew. But after discovering German-made Weck jars, I’ve found a superior alternative that aligns perfectly with our homesteading values of durability and reusability. While they have a higher upfront cost, Weck jars have proven to be an incredible investment. If you’ve ever been curious about them, here’s a breakdown of […]
Made Dandelion Jelly after seeing a recipe for it in Can It & Ferment It by Stephanie Thurow. Not going to say it was easy to open up all of the blossoms it took to make a cup of petals but it turned out really well and it tastes like honey. Interesting experiment. #jelly #dandelion #gardening #weck jars
